What is Somatic Experiencing?
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a type of bodywork that helps relieve anxiety and resolve trauma by carefully observing your body’s responses to stress and guiding it to greater feelings of safety and well-being.
The idea behind Somatic Experiencing is that we often do not have the chance to discharge bodily tensions caused by traumatic events or constant stress. SE can help you reset your nervous system to overcome the physical and emotional symptoms of this stress and trauma.
Somatic Experiencing does this using techniques of dialogue, visualization, exercises, and conscious sensing. These tools help clients resolve their challenges and find greater peace and relaxation.

I am a certified Somatic Experiencing Practioner (SEP) with a unique specialty combining SE with yoga. I provide both classical Somatic Experiencing sessions (involving talking and sensing the body), as well as Somatic Experiencing integrating yoga postures -- often basic, relaxing restorative poses.
I find that the holistic combination of Somatic Experiencing and yoga is very healing, providing my clients with a tremendous amount of well-being and nervous system support. (See some examples of my yoga-infused Somatic Experience exercises.)
My safe, nurturing sessions invite you to relax deeply, learn how to listen to your body's wisdom, and reconnect with your center. When appropriate for the client, I also provide guided visualizations, nutritional education, exercise support, and knowledge about the chakras.
How does a Somatic Experiencing session work?
Your Somatic Experiencing session will begin with a check-in on both a physical and an emotional level. I will teach you “resourcing” -- how to discover something good at any moment and soak in relaxing, pleasant feelings to help heal your nervous system.
From there we will carefully visit what might feel challenging to you – your stories, your sensations, your feelings – to unfold insights and healing. I put special emphasis on listening with compassion and acceptance to understand your whole story.
Then, using dialogue, breath awareness, and supported yoga poses, I will help you reeducate your nervous system to find its way back to homeostasis. This is a loving, nurturing process designed to help decrease overwhelm and stress symptoms, and encourage a greater sense of internal wisdom.
By the end of each session, you should feel a greater sense of health, strength, and wisdom. I recommend three or more private sessions to bring on deeper transformation, but even after one session you will feel an increase in emotional balance and presence.
